Coach Mary Ann MacLaren

 Mary Ann (Toth) MacLaren is the assistant coach of the boys’ rowing program working with every level of the team: novice, JV and Varsity under the direction of Head Coach David Fiske.

As a pre – Title 9 woman, she did not get the opportunity to row until an adult when Wyandotte Boat Club offered adult learn to row classes in 1984. A member of Ecorse Rowing Club since 1988, she was competed as a Master’s Woman rowing 2x and 1x in local, national and world regattas. She is the head coach at ERC for the summer youth development program, the summer adult learn to row sessions, and the master’s women’s crew.

David Morrison, another Our Lady of Mt. Carmel rower and coach, was her first mentor while coaching Ann Arbor Huron High School girls’ crew 2003- 2005. Coach Mary Ann has Levels I, II, and III coaching certifications from US Rowing and is a Concept 2 certified instructor on the Indoor Rowing Machine.

Her first contact with Coach Fiske was as coordinator of the volunteer staff for the first State Championship in 2008. Well, when he found out that she was available for high school crew, the rest is history. 

Coach Mary Ann lives in Plymouth with her husband, John. She has an adult son and daughter and 6 year old granddaughter. She was on the “20 year college program”  attending the University of Kentucky, Henry Ford Community College and finally graduating from Wayne State University. She is an early retiree from EDS and has a home based sewing business. Additionally, she is an independent sales representative for CJ Sports Productions in Union Lake.
